Participation in a conference on cultural cooperation in the Mediterranean region

31 December 2015

The international conference 'Culture, cultural diversity and sustainable development: opportunities and new challenges for the Mediterranean' was held from 9 to 10 November in Palermo, Italy. This meeting between Mediterranean countries is a forum to share experiences and knowledge linked to cooperation projects on heritage, artistic creation and the cultural industries. The aim of the event was to strengthen and promote cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and social cohesion between individuals, communities and groups, as well as to boost the number of sustainable development policies based on the guidelines of international organisations such as UNESCO, the Council of Europe and the European Union. Mercedes Giovinazzo, Interarts director and until a few weeks ago chair of Culture Action Europe, took part in the panel discussion 'Networking, associations, capacity for creation and mobility of artists between the two shores of the Mediterranean in the field of heritage, artistic creativity and the cultural industries'.
